Beautiful Textures *product review*

original
Hello all just a quick product review of the beautiful textures styling products. I was a little hesitant to do this review because I'm still up in the air on whether or not I love this product. At first I thought this stuff is great love love love it, then I was like its ok, then I used it with my EccoStyler Olive Oil Gel and got some white danduff looking stuff on my hair that I've never gotten when I use the products separately and thought maybe this stuff isn't so great after all. So with that here we go.
I used the Moisture Butter
Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter Whipped Curl Crème
I like the consistency of the product it was thick not runny, a little greasy reminds me of mayonnaise. Its was a peachy color. It smells tropical and fruit just a hint of a floral smell. It's ok, I can honestly say I've just used this product once or maybe twice by itself. It moisturizing ok, but like with EVERY product I try my hair is kinda dry after a few hours. As far as curl definition, I was to warn you that I don't have much curl definition to begin with so any definition is great to me. It was pretty good. A little goes a long way. I may not buy this again if I find something that works better, but it is pretty inexpensive I believe it was less than $10 and its a large jar (8 oz). Let me just say it was ok but not exciting enough for me to just go out and buy the rest of the line. I don't know I'm going on a shampoo run later I might stop in to Sally's I might just switch it up a bit. Would I recommend this product? Yes, I'd say give it a try it may work wonders for your hair, it wasn't horrible by any means, it smells nice and I can't say anything about the hold because I used it with the Beautiful Textures Curl Control Defining Pudding so I don't know what it does by itself. I'd say try it. Its inexpensive enough to at least give it a go.

I also used the Curl Control Defining Pudding:
Beautiful Textures Curl Control Defining Pudding
The consistency of this product is a little thinner than the butter. (If you have finer hair I'd recommend using this the butter is heavier). Its also a little greasy and is more the consistency of  thick lotion like St. Ives. I liked this product more than the butter and use it more for twist outs and to moisturize. (Even though I think I'll switch and start using the butter more, maybe...) It smells good, they have a slightly different smell the butter and the pudding but the smells are complimentary. I was in love with this product until I used it with my Kinky Curly Knot Today and Eccostyler gel, my hair flaked up a bit. But by itself a definite try for my curls of all textures. Its good and moisturizing, I'm still looking for a little more shine. Also together the products did a decent job fighting my frizz. Not great but good. I'd say give it a try, it may not be a staple but its a good holding place if you are debating between other more expensive products like I am now.

Hope this helps! Stick with me ladies as I journey I promise it'll be at the very least entertaining if not informative!

Quickie curly

Hello world! Quickly want to tell you about my fast mid week co-wash. so many of my relaxed friends and relatives tell me about how much time they think it takes to care for natural hair so this is installment one of my quick no fuss hair for busy natualistas. Today I had to get my little guys up and out early and I fell asleep before doIng my hair!! Oh no I thought this morning was going to be horrible BUT I thought ok if I can just wet my hair I can do something. So I pre-pooed with my oil mix (again that's olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and Rosemary) then I co washed my hair with VO5 stawberries and cream conditioner mixed with a slash of oils (no coconut milk but I wanted it) and and some of my leave in kinky Curly Knot Today. Quickly tossed it in my hair bathed and rinsed it while finger detangling and sprayed some Mazani leave-in and my knot today in my hair and did a super fast detangle my hair detangles easily. Pulled my hair back in a pony using Eccostyler gel. Total time 15 minutes! Results...Good but can't upload a picture right now!

Older curlies and question

Hey all real quick while I'm on break! Just want to show youy hair a few days after bentonite cleanse. Usually I'd have to rebraid at night but was super tired and thought I'd just fro it out but I got this instead....
Softer curl but still some definition...sorry my phone camera is horrible...
Horrible camera...little curls...
closer look at wave from braid and grey hair...no :(!!

Now for my question. What styling products do you all use? I'm thinking I might get better definition if I actually used products for styling purposes. I don't currently, but wonder what won't dry my hair or make it free like a brillo pad? Do you all use curling puddings to style, butters, gels/custards? Is there something you aren't daring enough to try and would like me to do a product review for you? I have some Uncle Funky's Daughter Extra Butter but I don't like it, it actually straightens my hair, no bueno! Thanks, next will be some kind of product review of a water-based moisturizer and/or styling product so let me know what you use!

Experimentation station

Ok so this weekend I tried a bentonite clay detox for my hair and face. Let me just say I am impressed but more impressed to try it again with better results. It did an excellent job purifying my face and I loved it. I also like that my curls were more defined after I applied it to my hair. I think I should have used a little more maybe? Maybe a leave in conditioner or curling product to maintain the curls? I don't know I'm looking forward to experimenting. I used Aztec brand bentonite clay from Sprouts, water, apple cider vinegar and coconut milk for moisture. I followed by deep conditioning with VO5 conditioner, with added oils (coconut, olive, castor, jojoba) and a dash of coconut milk. I detangled some in the shower but was afraid I'd lose the curls I saw when I first took the clay out. I did lose those pretty tiny ringlets anyway :( maybe I should have used a leave-in? I don't know but here's me with a braid out before and after the treatment. I wouldn't say it was a failure but I wouldn't say I totally succeeded either. Now to find a product that reduces frizz!!
Before the treatment and after being out in the heat a little bit.
After the treatment...I can see some more definition but that darn frizz is killing me.

Hi my name is...

Hello world its me! I've decided to break down and chronicle my natural hair journey a la blog. So here I go! First a little about me. My name is Momma Shayla. I'm a busy mom of five, with a full time job, active kids, and a whole lot of what I'd describe as type 4aish bish hair. Have no idea what I'm talking about? Click here to discover what your hair type is.  I have been "natural" for almost three years. "Natural" is in quotations because depending on what you consider natural I may or may not have been all natural back then. I had my last relaxer on June 12, 2009. I wore my hair in weave for a wedding. Once that weave came out I went from braids, to braids, to weave to braids, and so on but never reapplied the relaxer. I knew I wanted a break from the creamy crack, but I couldn't bare the sight of my head with short hair. So I just let my hair grow under attactive braid styles until about September of 2011. I was pregnant with my youngest and I thought, let's do this! I went to a salon and got the "big chop" however mine wasn't drastic since I had a TON of new growth from my two years of no relaxer. I've gone back to braids since then but when my hair is out of braids I rock the natural styles. I'm super busy and I've seen tons of natural hair, blogs, forums, websites, you tube channels, but all the women seem to be footloose, fancy-free and kid-less. I plan on adding a you tube channel in the future as well, and it will probably feature more than just hair...that's later though! I'm hoping to be able to include product reviews, hairstyles, links, hairecipes, and more. Please please comment, leave questions and I'll get back with you ASAP. Thanks so much for coming along on my fantastic follicle journey!
